GREG BOULTON AWARDED AM

Greg Boulton has been recognised for his service to football administration, to the community of South Australia and to business.

His retirement from Port Adelaide Football Club at the end of 2008 ended a 23-year association with the club, including 17 years as president and chairman.

He was at the helm when the club entered the AFL in 1997 and also for their historic first AFL premiership in 2004. "There are probably two or three highlights," he said.

"Being successful in gaining an AFL licence is right up there.

"Clearly the 2004 AFL grand final was a highlight. But the highlight has really been the whole journey and the people I've met along the way."

Mr Boulton's affinity with sport administration continues through his role as deputy chairman of both the SA Motor Sport Board and Thoroughbred Racing SA.

Mr Bolton said the support of his wife, Cheryl, and daughters, Rebecca and Gabrielle, had contributed to his achievements. "This is not just an individual award . . . part of this award will be for them," he said.
